Soft Gum Base is the chewing gum base material that gives gum its chew, elasticity and structure, holding flavour and sweeteners within the mass as it is worked. Supplied under the gum category, it carries CAS number 70892-12-5 and falls within the scope of Reg. 852/2004. In production it forms the insoluble skeleton of the finished piece, so the texture and bite of the gum depend largely on it.
Manufacturers use Soft Gum Base in chewing gum and bubble gum, where it is blended with sweeteners, flavours and softeners before shaping. It is a soft, elastic solid at room temperature, insoluble in water and handled by warming until it becomes workable, then mixing while hot. Keep it away from moisture and excessive heat, and confirm the grade suits the intended texture.
