Our matcha is EU Organic (Regulation (EU) 2018/848) and USDA NOP certified. Every batch is pre-shipment screened for 30–40 pesticide parameters and heavy metals against the EU default maximum residue level, and tested for mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH/MOSH) by third-party labs. A full documentation pack, including certificate copies and test reports, is supplied with every shipment.

Why matcha needs specific import controls

Matcha carries import risks that don't apply the same way to other food ingredients. Because the whole leaf is consumed (rather than an infusion, as with regular tea), any pesticide residue or contaminant present in the leaf ends up in the finished product at a higher effective concentration. Matcha has also specifically been implicated in mineral oil hydrocarbon (MOAH/MOSH) contamination cases in the EU, usually traced to packaging materials such as recycled cardboard or printed packaging inks rather than the tea itself. Both risks are addressed directly in how our matcha is tested and packaged.

Five controls

What we test and document, batch by batch

01

Pesticide and heavy metal screening

Pre-shipment screening aligned with recent RASFF notifications: 30–40 pesticide parameters (including dinotefuran, lambda-cyhalothrin, and imidacloprid) and heavy metals (lead, cadmium), respecting the EU default maximum residue level of 0.01 mg/kg.

02

Mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH/MOSH)

Every batch is tested for mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH/MOSH) by third-party labs, and the report is supplied with your documentation pack.

03

Dedicated, contamination-controlled processing

Grinding takes place on a dedicated negative-pressure, dust-free line. Packaging is never shared with loose-leaf tea, and batch traceability runs from garden to carton.

04

Packaging built to protect the product

Aluminium-foil vacuum inner packaging, food-grade PE liner, and virgin ink-free outer cartons (no recycled board, since matcha readily absorbs mineral oil from recycled fibre). Food-contact materials meet PFAS limits.

05

A documentation pack with every shipment

Organic certificate copies, batch CoA and test reports, third-party mineral-oil and pesticide reports from internationally recognised labs, a health certificate, and support for TRACES/CHED pre-notification.

What is MOAH/MOSH, and why does it matter for matcha?

MOAH (mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons) and MOSH (mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons) are contaminants that can migrate into food from recycled packaging board, printing inks, or lubricants used during processing. Because matcha is a fine, high-surface-area powder, it is particularly prone to absorbing mineral oil compounds from packaging. That is why our matcha ships in virgin (non-recycled), ink-free outer cartons with an aluminium-foil vacuum inner and a food-grade PE liner, and why every batch is tested for MOAH/MOSH by third-party labs before shipment, with the report included in your documentation pack.

Documentation pack

What comes with every shipment

  • Organic certificate copies (EU Organic, Regulation (EU) 2018/848; USDA NOP)
  • Batch Certificate of Analysis (CoA)
  • Third-party pesticide residue test report
  • Third-party heavy metal test report (lead, cadmium)
  • Third-party mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH/MOSH) test report
  • Health certificate
  • TRACES / CHED pre-notification support

Certificate copies and test reports are also available before you order, as part of the free sample process, so your compliance team can review them ahead of a first bulk order.
